iPhone 6 and 6s Cases

Still stocking a phone most shops gave up on

The iPhone 6 launched in 2014. Finding a case for one in New Zealand now usually means trawling marketplace listings and hoping. We still carry them, and that is the main reason this page exists if your phone works and you intend to keep using it, there is no good reason a case should be the thing that stops you.

iPhone 6 and 6s cases mostly cross over

The 6 and 6s are the same 4.7-inch size with the same single rear camera, home button and port layout, so cases are generally interchangeable. One caveat: the 6s is fractionally thicker, because Apple added the 3D Touch layer behind the display. A tight-fitting hard shell cut for a 6 can be a squeeze on a 6s, though flexible TPU and leather folio cases cross without trouble.

The Plus models follow the same rule among themselves 6 Plus and 6s Plus cases interchange but a 4.7-inch case will not fit a 5.5-inch Plus. Check under Settings > General > About if you are unsure which you have.

What will not fit

The iPhone 7 is the one to watch. It is also 4.7 inches and looks very similar, but Apple redesigned the antenna bands and moved the speaker arrangement when the headphone jack came out, so the cutouts do not line up. A 7 case on a 6 leaves the base wrong. Treat any listing claiming to fit the 6 through to the 8 as unreliable those are three different cutout patterns.

The last iPhones with a headphone jack

The 6 and 6s are the final 4.7-inch iPhones Apple built with a 3.5mm jack, and for some owners that is precisely why they are still using one. It is worth a thought when choosing a case: a thick rugged shell can recess the jack far enough that chunky or right-angled headphone plugs will not seat fully. If you use wired headphones daily, check the product photos around the top edge before ordering.

These models also have no wireless charging and no magnets Apple added wireless charging with the iPhone 8 and magnets with the 12. Cable only. The upside is that case thickness costs you nothing, so you can choose the most protective option without worrying about a charging pad reaching through. For magnetic car mounting, add a separate magnetic ring to a flat-backed case.

What a case needs to do after a decade

On a phone this old, a case is keeping something in service. Screen repair rarely makes economic sense anymore, which makes prevention the whole argument a raised front lip is what keeps the glass off the ground in a face-down drop, and it is the single feature worth insisting on.

Leather flip cases suit these models particularly well. The cover protects the display directly rather than relying on a few millimetres of clearance, the aluminium body grips better in leather than bare, and at 4.7 inches the added bulk barely registers. Wallet options start at $25 with three card slots, a coin compartment in the lining and a magnetic closure the full range is in Hanman phone cases.
