Why FE cases are harder to find

If hunting for an S23 FE case has been frustrating, that is not your imagination. Case makers build for the flagships first the Ultra, the Plus, the standard S23 and Fan Edition handsets get a fraction of the attention despite selling well in New Zealand. The FE also has its own dimensions and camera layout, so nothing cut for another S23 will fit it.

That is worth knowing before ordering from a marketplace listing. A case described as fitting "the S23 series" almost always means the standard, Plus and Ultra, not the FE. Check under Settings > About phone and match the exact name including FE.

The case we carry for this model is a leather wallet flip at $25, and it suits the phone well. Card slots inside the cover, a fold-out stand for video, and a folio that closes over the screen.

That last part is the real argument for a flip case over a back-only one. A standard case relies on a raised lip to keep the display a couple of millimetres off the ground; a folio puts a layer of leather directly over the glass. On a 6.4-inch phone the screen is the expensive part, and it is what usually breaks.

It also replaces your wallet rather than adding to what you carry. Cards and the phone travel together, so the total bulk in your pocket often goes down which is a sensible trade on a value handset, where spending $50 on a protective shell feels out of proportion to the phone.

Magnetic accessories on the S23 FE

Worth understanding, because Galaxy works differently from iPhone. Apple builds a magnet ring into the handset so any case passes it through. Samsung puts the magnets in the case and the S23 FE has none of its own.

This leather folio does not carry a magnet array either, so with it fitted the phone will charge on a flat wireless pad and nothing more: no magnetic car mount, no snap-on power bank. If magnetic mounting matters to you, the practical route is a stick-on magnetic ring on a flat-backed case, though that means giving up the wallet function.
