Make sure it is an 11 and not an XR

These two are among the hardest iPhones to tell apart. The iPhone XR and iPhone 11 are both 6.1 inches, both use an LCD display and an aluminium frame, both have the same notch, both charge over Lightning, and their dimensions differ by a fraction of a millimetre. Hold one in each hand and you would struggle.

The camera is the whole difference. The XR has a single lens. The iPhone 11 has two, set in a square housing on the back. An XR case will slide onto an iPhone 11 and sit perfectly, then cover the second lens entirely. Check under Settings > General > About before ordering, and be careful with listings that claim to fit both almost none genuinely do.

Still one of the most common phones in New Zealand

The iPhone 11 was the best-selling smartphone in the world in 2020, and a large share of those are still in service. That is why we keep stocking it. Plenty of retailers dropped 2019 models years ago; if you have been told your phone is too old to find a decent case for, that has not been true here.

This model does not have MagSafe

Apple started building magnets into iPhones with the 12 generation, so the 11 has none. It charges wirelessly on a standard Qi pad, but it will not snap to a magnetic charger, car mount or power bank on its own no case can be genuinely "MagSafe" on this handset in the way it can on a newer one.

You can still get magnetic mounting two ways. A case with a magnet ring moulded into it gives the phone a capability the handset itself lacks, and holds alignment well. Or add a separate magnetic ring to a case you already own cheaper and it works on any flat-backed case, though adhesive rings tend to drift off-centre over time.

Cases that suit the colour

The iPhone 11 came in purple, green, yellow and red alongside the usual black and white, with colour-matched glass backs. If one of those is why you chose it, a clear case keeps it visible. Look for anti-yellowing construction untreated TPU turns amber within a few months, and faster under New Zealand sun, which is particularly noticeable over a bright back panel.
