iPhone 11 Pro Cases

Your iPhone 11 Pro does not have MagSafe

This is worth knowing before you buy any accessory. Apple did not start building magnets into iPhones until the 12 generation, so the 11 Pro has none. It charges wirelessly on a standard Qi pad, but it will not snap to a magnetic charger, a magnetic car mount or a magnetic power bank on its own, and no amount of searching for a "MagSafe iPhone 11 Pro case" changes that.

There are two ways to get magnetic mounting anyway. Choose a case with a magnet ring moulded into it, which gives the phone a capability the handset itself lacks. Or add a separate magnetic ring to a case you already own cheaper, and it works on any case with a flat back. The moulded version holds alignment better over time, since adhesive rings tend to drift off-centre.

Do not buy an iPhone XS case

The XS and the 11 Pro are both 5.8 inches and within half a millimetre of each other in every dimension. Put them face down and you still cannot tell which is which until you look at the camera: the XS has two lenses stacked vertically, the 11 Pro has three in a square housing. An XS case will fit the body of an 11 Pro perfectly and cover a lens.

Check under Settings > General > About before ordering, and be wary of any listing that claims to fit both.

What to look for on a phone this age

The 11 Pro is around seven years old, and at that point a case is doing a different job. It is not about keeping a new phone looking new it is about keeping a working phone working, and screen repair on a Pro model still costs more than most people want to spend on a handset this age.

That argues for the practical features over the decorative ones. A raised lip around the screen is what stops a face-down drop reaching the glass. A flip cover does the same job more directly, protecting the display rather than relying on a few millimetres of clearance. And the matte textured glass back on this model, while handsome, is slippery grip matters more here than on a phone with a frosted or coated finish.

Leather wallet cases

Wallet cases start at $25 in the Hanman range, with three card slots, a dedicated coin compartment in the lining and a magnetic closure. The leather is oil and stain resistant and repels fingerprints, so it holds its appearance rather than marking the way untreated leather does.

On an older phone this combination makes particular sense: the case replaces your wallet, cushions the screen with the cover, and adds grip the glass back does not have. The full range across every handset is in Hanman phone cases.
