iPhone 8 Cases

Four model names, one case size

This is the most useful thing to know about buying a case for an iPhone 8. The iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone SE 2nd generation and iPhone SE 3rd generation all share essentially the same 4.7-inch body same dimensions, single rear camera in the same position, home button, and the same button and port layout. A case cut for any of them fits the others.

That matters because it widens your options considerably. If this page looks thin, check iPhone 7 cases and iPhone SE cases as well and the SE listings are worth looking at first, because the SE 2020 and 2022 are far more recent phones, so stock for them tends to be newer and deeper than anything still labelled for a 2017 handset.

What will not fit

The 8 Plus is a different phone 5.5 inches with a dual camera, not interchangeable with this one despite the shared name. And the iPhone 6 and 6s, while also 4.7 inches, differ enough around the camera and edges that cases do not reliably cross. Check under Settings > General > About before ordering.

A listing that says "7 / 8 / SE" is reliable. One that stretches from the 6 through to the 8 is not.

Your iPhone 8 charges wirelessly

Many owners never discovered this. The iPhone 8 was one of the first iPhones Apple built with wireless charging the glass back was the whole point of that redesign. Set it on a standard Qi pad and it charges, and most cases are thin enough for it to work through without removing them.

What it does not have is magnets. Those arrived with the iPhone 12, so the 8 will not snap onto a magnetic charger, car mount or power bank by itself. To add that, either choose a case with a magnet ring moulded in, or fit a separate magnetic ring to a flat-backed case you already own.

What a case needs to do here

The iPhone 8 is the last standard-sized iPhone with a home button and Touch ID, and for a lot of owners that is the reason they are still on it rather than an accident. A case on a phone like that is keeping something in service, not bridging a gap to an upgrade.

The practical features earn their place. A raised front lip is what keeps the display off the ground in a face-down drop, and screen repair still costs more than most people want to put into a phone this age. The glass back offers very little grip, so texture helps. Leather flip cases protect the screen directly with the cover rather than relying on clearance, and at 4.7 inches the added bulk is barely noticeable wallet options start at $25 with three card slots, a coin compartment in the lining and a magnetic closure. The full range is in Hanman phone cases.
